Thin, shorter than average, short black hair.

Full Description:
Tristan is thinly built with short black hair and he has brown eyes. He is not very imposing physically and can often blend into a crowd with ease. He is only 5ft 5” making him smaller than most people he knows. He has a scar on his right leg from being attacked with a knife when he was younger. Tristan also likes to wear comfortable brightly coloured clothes. He tends to damage his clothes a lot through general carelessness so he often has cuts in his shirts as well. He rarely wears formal wear such as suits and is very uncomfortable when he does. Tristan is often scruffy in his appearance as he only pays attention to his looks on special occasions. As a dog he is a black Labrador.

Personality:
Tristan is a shy man because he fears his power showing him something about someone that he doesn’t want to know. He is affectionate when possible however and enjoys the company of others. He is smart in psychology and science as they are his favourite subjects. He loves to understand why people do things and why things happen in nature. His natural curiosity however has been constrained by his power as he is afraid to use it. He prefers the company of woman to men and has in the past used his power to learn ‘what women want’. He loves reading, especially crime thrillers and also books about the supernatural.

- He secretly loves doing things in dog form like playing fetch, rolling over and having his belly rubbed. Life feels more simple to him as a dog.

History:

Tristan was born to Mary and Davin O’Brien in 1994. His parents were both shifters who moved around the Irish countryside a lot in order to avoid their identities being discovered. His dad was a large ape and his mother was a jaguar. They were living in a hotel in Limerick when Tristan was born and they then tried to maintain a settled life for him. His mother’s power was the ability to numb any physical pain she suffered to the point where she could no longer feel it. This was very helpful to her during Tristan’s birth but also caused health problems later on when she overused the power in an attempt to overcome emotional pain. His dad’s power was that he could always sense the approach of danger and know how to avoid it. When he and Tristan’s mother lived as runaways this was extremely helpful and served them both well for a long time. At his 6th birthday party Tristan realized his own ability to learn peoples desires when he touched his friends neck. He found out that she wanted a slice of cake but didn’t want to ask due to shyness and so he got it for her. Seeing how happy this made her Tristan started off by greatly liking his power.

In his childhood he also discovered his ability to transform into a dog. It became a habit of his to turn into a dog and roam the neighbourhood ‘looking cute’ to get affection. He secretly liked some aspects of dog life. His parent’s animal forms were far more conspicuous and his dad began trying to restrain him from changing out of jealousy. Tristan never listened however and was frequently punished for going out as a dog. He particularly liked walking over to groups of girls wagging his tail and letting them fawn over him. When he first went to school he got along well with most people though he began to see the problems with his power. He started learning things about his teachers and classmates he wouldn’t have chosen to know given the choice. He learned that a boy in his class desired to steal the other children’s stuff and he wasn’t able to act the same around him after that. The boy never did steal however revealing a flaw in Tristan’s power. He could learn what people desired but it didn’t show him whether they would act on those desires or not.

When he was 12 his dad lost his well paying job in construction and they began to struggle financially. Both his parents worked long hours and the lack of sleep and decent food provoked arguments. They would argue with each other about Tristan even when he was within earshot of them. It was after one of these arguments that Tristan accidentally touched his mother’s hand and discovered a dark desire of hers. She wanted him to leave to make things less stressful. Although she would have never acted on the desire Tristan didn’t know that and he packed his bags and left home a few months before turning 13. He lived in dog form for several months finding it an easier and less emotionally painful way to live. He also never went hungry as he used his dog form to beg for food off willing passersby. He found out about Darcy academy after stowing away on a ferry with a vampire captain discussing how his eldest son was attending. Curious he made his way there and signed up when he discovered he may be able to learn to control himself better. He had previously struggled to stop changing into dog form having lived that way for a substantial amount of time.

His first few years at Darcy involved his power causing trouble for him several times. He did abuse his ability in order to get girlfriends by learning what they wanted from a boyfriend. This was discovered by a male student who told his girlfriend at the time causing them to break up. Knowing what he could do also made his fellow students keen to avoid contact with him because his power was particularly invasive. He found making friends difficult as a lot of his classmates didn’t want a stranger learning all their deepest desires. The worst incident was when he discovered a male student was secretly a homosexual. He touched his hand while lending him a pen and learned that he desired to be with a male friend of his. He didn’t realize he was hiding that identity and it slipped out during a conversation. Word spread and the student refused to be in the same room after the event. Although Tristan hadn’t intentionally tried to tell his secret he still felt enormously guilty and resented his power more than ever. He now has few friends at Darcy and even fewer who will give him any physical affection.

At his 16th birthday he learned that a female student had a crush on him and used the information to get her into bed with him. He didn’t get any further then light touching before he felt too guilty and told her the truth. Like every other woman he had been with she then felt like he had betrayed her somehow and never saw him again. He has recently begun to slip back into his old habit of becoming a dog and using that form to get attention and affection. He feels incredibly lonely and fears that anyone that gets close to him will feel violated by his power and leave him as the others had done. He does want to be in a relationship with someone that accepts his power and cares for him regardless. He spends a lot of his time reading, especially books on psychology and biology which he finds most interesting. He also likes to spend his time outside away from other people as this limits the risk of casual contact making him learn a student’s secret desires.
