MENTAL;;Personality:
His interest in music came from the first musical instrument he ever played; the bagpipes. He looked at all the academic science done in his family (his mother had a degree in immunochemistry and chemicoengineering, she was forced to give up her career when Miles's father left) who saw it as a waste of time. His mother believed that once you finished playing music, it was gone. There was no imprint on the brain. Miles disagreed because it was something that could regularly be practiced. Being the adaptable man he is, he moved to more modern and common instruments to see if he could get the hang of it. The first song he ever learned to play on the guitar was 'the One I love' by David Gray. Miles did as was natural to Miles, practice and practice until he was the best he could be. He is a very bubbly person and very down to earth but the one thing he cannot stand, under any circumstance, is arrogant people. He listens to a girl/guy bragging yet Miles knows that he doesn't give a crap about anything they're saying. No way will he keep quiet about this dislike either. He'd burn everything they had if it would make them get the message that their life wasn't as terrible as they claimed it was. An exaggeration maybe but it depends. His whole life he'd not ever spoken about kids. It's no secret he knows nothing about how much care a child needs and how much is necessary to a child's development. Having a child was the last thing he wanted to do and now he's buying toys for a child of his own. Escalating desire has potentially given him the worst wake up call of his life.
Likes:
- The Left Party (a democratic socialist political party in Germany)
- His home country
- Watching trial court
- County court
- His lucky plectrum/pick
- Administrative law
- Playing guitar, piano, the violin, the cello or bagpipes
- Learning new instruments to play (his current conquest is the flute)
- Playing new games and doing new things in general
Dislikes:
- Arrogance
- Music snobbery
- His mother telling him he could've been a 'productive' member of society
- Bribery
- Drains on the U.S economy
Hobbies:
Play music, read the latest headlines, read the newspaper, debate, working which involves a lot of memorizing and interviews, he even dabbles in video technology (in the event that he has to be his own cameraman)
Secrets:
When his ex partner passed away, Miles adopted her daughter Andrea of whom the father was absent at the request of his ex partner's unchanged will.
Miles and Andrea don't get on very well. He's learning that being a father without a biological bond to a child is harder than he thought.
Abilities:
He's charismatic, can point a camera in the right direction, can play the guitar, the violin, the cello, the bagpipes and the piano. His legal knowledge is impressive and he also keeps up with politics.
Inabilities:
Looking after children, balancing his career from his personal life, he can't handle when he hasn't perfected something.
Fears:
His next partner dying like the last one did.
Quirks:
He cannot handle the uncivilized manner of diaper-changing. He hated it. He follows his own star, doesn't look back at helping others if it jeopardizes his chances of furthering his own career.
PAST;;History:
There was no major story to Mile's being born. It was out of sheer inclination that his parents wanted a child. They didn't spend any time with him though, his father left his mother for a member of the Political Party he was in back in Germany. Miles's mother ran away to where she knew best, since she was a Darcy graduate herself. It boded well for her because she ended up going on to get a degree in immunochemistry and chemicoengineering. However, being an established scientist had the drawback that Miles lived a very dull, attention-less childhood. At the age of sixteen, basically as soon as it was legally allowed, he moved out of his parent's home and in with his girlfriend at the time, Tiffany. At this point they'd already been together since they were thirteen, they were the definition of childhood sweethearts. It was the first time either of them had moved out of their parent's house so it was a very nervous time for them, not to mention they were a sixteen year old couple living together. Tensions ran high but they had a fantastic love for each other, considering their age. They felt sixteen going on fourty.
Two years later, Tiffany developed SARS during her study abroad. There was less than a 1% of it being fatal, so Miles wasn't worried. She was in a the hospital for about a month to his knowledge and due to it being easy to catch Miles was forbid to see her. The phone call that Tiffany made from a hospital bed, the one that told him she was splitting up with him caused him to throw the phone at the wall. She didn't want to be in a relationship, she said, and that she'd fallen out of love with him before but only now the way she appreciated the time alone without him was a certain sign it was time to end it. So he had to move out of the place they had together. At eighteen this was a lot of pressure and he had no support from his family at all. He was very vocal after that in going to study Law, to do something with his life. He wanted a music career to be the back-up, not the main focus of his life.
To help pay for University he took up a job as a construction labourer, being supervised most of the time as he had no prior experience. He was up very early in the morning and often saw Tiffany around, she had apparently started working as a Courier once she was allowed out of the hospital. He didn't know if he'd ever have the courage to actually talk to her though, ask her how the place was, if she had anyone new in her life. He didn't have the courage to ask any of these things. He'd tried to get a new place as soon as the last one but Miles was forced to live in a smaller building that he could afford after rent became a struggle. He kept telling himself every day he was going to talk to her that day, though he didn't really have as much time to as he thought.
Almost a year later, a man was at his door telling him that Tiffany had left custody of her daughter, Andrea, to him whilst she was on her deathbed, this action being enforced due to the event of her death. Miles didn't even know she had a daughter, she'd stopped working as a courier at least six months ago and so Miles didn't really see her around. Then it made sense why she hadn't been working, a little invention called having a baby. Furthermore, Miles was speechless to the news that she passed away. Apparently her body had got so weak from all the medication the hospital gave her that when Tiffany caught the influenza she passed away without her body's normal defenses trying to fight it. Until Miles was of age to adopt her (he was nineteen at the time) Tiffany's mother had temporary custody. So he finished his law degree with a minor in journalism and immediately started looking for work.
Tiffany's mother let Miles take Andrea from time to time whilst he was getting his degree finished. He had his degree and his daughter by the age of twenty-one. Now she's nine years of age, but even so when Miles is with Andrea he can't seem to get anything right. They just can't get on. For example, she'd return late from school with Miles trying desperately to call her only to find either she wasn't answering or her phone was off. They would shout at each other so much that the nights felt extra long sometimes. Tiffany's mother found herself bored of Andrea after five years of age and eventually called it quits on contact. Things got worse when they were forced to move to a place near Darcy Academy, since Miles was aware Andrea would be starting school soon and he couldn't see any humans accepting her being a werewolf.
Tiffany's mother did help somewhat in the moving process, helping bring Andrea's things over for example. Miles often has to travel for work but he makes sure that Andrea is never home alone. Tiffany's mother being still unaware of her granddaughter's werewolf gene doesn't see why they're moving to an island when Miles had to travel so often for work. His job depended basically on what was hot at the time. He covers music events for E which could happen several times in a week or not in a month. And as Legal Correspondent of Channel 8, any serious legal cases had his coverage. His most recent case he was reporting was the case of Michael Jackson's personal physician for example. He mainly handled the trials where it was imperative that the public needed to know. So his career is going swimmingly, his relationship with his 'daughter' not so much.
