Artemis had done absolutely nothing all day long. She and Apollo, as well as their usual group of friends had spent the night before hanging around Darcy Island. Swimming, laughing, and just enjoying the summer night. Late nights made for late mornings, for Artemis anyway. She wasn't a morning person and had slept in until about noon on this particular day, getting up only once to feed. She had devoted the rest of the day to working out with her brother and, after a long shower, crawled back into bed for a nap. But as the sun sank slowly behind the mountains and the moon took it's place, Artemis could feel the excitment coursing through her. They were all going out again tonight, but not to Darcy Island. Quite the opposite infact. Blue Bloods, one of the local clubs, never checked your i.d. if you had the right amount of green and the Darcy twins definitely did. Tonight was about drinking and having a blast, getting into trouble and not caring until the next morning when their mother was surely going to to furious. They didn't ever really take things too far, just borderline inappropriate. That line never worked on their mother and father...ever.
Artemis' room was covered with dresses and heels that she had pulled out, tried on, and thrown either on the bed or the floor. She wasn't the most decisive when it came to picking out her outfit. Everything had to be perfect and if there was even one thing, no matter how small, that she didn't like it got thrown onto the floor with the other rejected ideas. Artemis picked her way through the clothes on the bed, floor and closet, trying to decide on something to wear. The dress the young vampire had finally decided on was a tight fitting, dark blue number that she had bought on a trip to Paris. As for her heels, she had decided on one of her favorite pairs of Jimmy Choos. She had been sitting in front of her vanity, making the last minute adjustments to long, dark brown hair that she had curled and pinned accordingly. Dark eye shadow and liner made her dark eyes pop and seem even larger than normal. Her eyes were her favorite feature. After placing a lace flower in her hair, Artemis stood up and took one last look in her vanity. "Perfect." She said allowed before grabbing her cell and her clutch and turning to leave her room. Apollo had already left to meet up with part of their group, so Artemis headed straight out of the manor and into the night.
The ride to the local club went by very quickly, which wasn't surprising considering she was driving a porsche and she tended to ignore the speed limits. She parked the car in the lot and shut off the purring engine. She absolutely loved fast cars. And when they were driven by hot guys it only made her love them more.
Artemis stepped out into the cool night air and inhaled deeply the scents of the town and nigtlife. Summer time was her favorte. All the freedom to do whatever she liked with the people she loved most. Artemis sent a quick text to her brother before she sauntered up to the front of the line and flashed and dazzling grin. She could feel the eyes of the envious watching her. The bouncer knew exactly who she was, there was no mistaking a Darcy afterall, and unclipped the velvet rope, allowing her to enter.
The club was buzzing with energy and music. It pulsed through the place like blood in one's veins. It made her skin prickle with excitment and adrenaline as she made her way through all the gyrating bodies to the bar. She would find her brother later. Alcohol first, dancing second. The bartender smiled at Artemis before asking what she would like. "Apple martini please." she said confidently. The bartender nodded his shaggy head and went to work, tossing bottles and mixing her drink for her.

Oh mountain so high. Hiding what I'll never find. Yet I'll sleep at night. Starr was tucked up into his room writing Haikus. The mountain was a metaphor for ambition. His dreams would always be so high in the mountains that he couldn't reach them and yet he lives his life as normal, expecting them to come. He'd been starving for at least twenty minutes but he'd got so wrapped up in haiku's the time had flown by. He wasn't used to living on his own yet, accepting that his mother wasn't going to come through the door with sandwiches. She did provide him with enough sandwiches to eat for the rest of the year though, they were all stashed in the trunk of his car. Thick meaty buns with feta cheese, his stomach growled just thinking about it. He could go out and get them but he wanted to proceed with his story of the mountain. It seemed like it could really extend into a larger poem or even a short story.
He was still waiting to hear back from the local magazine about the hired writer position. He was nervous, he didn't think he'd get the job being only a junior. It was starting to stress him out that he wasn't hearing back and that was a good indicative that he probably needed to get out. He put his pen down against his notepad and looked around for his car keys. He couldn't remember how they ended up in his mini-fridge but that was where he eventually found them. He shutdown his laptop, turned off his light and headed out. He didn't want to do any serious spending, he didn't have too much money anyway. So he decided to just go to a car, where there would be dancing and drinks. That was fine enough. He was underage but they never checked that stuff anyway. He ate one of his sandwiches on the way up there. He didn't want to eat too much if he were drinking.
Skidding down the road toward Blue Bloods, Starr thought about how drunk the people would already be inside. Whether they'd be quibbling amongst themselves or exploding into full-out bar fights. It was hard to tell, it was a Saturday night. If any day was the best for a party it was that one. He felt a little bit like a loser for spending most of it indoors writing. He queued in the line like everyone else, he hated how the bouncers sometimes bended the rules of queuing if a girl was pretty or the person was renowned. Whilst waiting in the line he heard many people complain about Artemis Darcy, who was in the club tonight and apparently had walked straight in. Astarpio shook his head, some people just couldn't be humble. He'd never met Miss Darcy because he spent all his time with Ai but the people outside weren't making her sound very nice.
It didn't matter though, because he wasn't looking for a date. If he wanted a date he wouldn't go to a bar. He liked his dates to be creative and something neither of them had done before. The club scene was retro in that sense. He entered the club eventually. Nobody was even on the dance floor, everyone was visiting the bar. That was a bad sign, like he was going to get ambushed by drunkards. He didn't mind being the only one dancing though. He wished classics like Thriller would be played more often than some funky studio beat but he couldn't win them all. He got on the dance floor and bobbed along to the music, hoping someone would join him so this didn't end up looking painful.

The bartender had taken his sweet time bringing her the drink but it gave Artemis time to take a look around the club. There were plenty of faces she knew. Blue Bloods was a club she and Apollo frequented and Garvonia wasn't exactly a huge town. Students from the Academy, as well as a few graduates who went to school during Addy's time were here tonight. But there were also plenty of faces she didn't know.
Her eyes had strayed to the dance floor, which was surprisingly empty, and landed on a boy she wasn't familiar with. She watched him for a moment as he started dancing. He was, in her opinion, quite attractive. She had been about to get up a join him when the bartender tapped her on the shoulder and handed her the drink. Artemis thanks him with a nodd of her head and took a quick sip. The liquid was sweet and sour all at once. It was her drink of choice and the bartenders were amazing.
Artemis turned back around, drink in hand, and tried to spot the boy again. He was still on the dance floor and she was quite happy at that fact. Artemis took another sip of her drink, her lips puckering a little as the green alcohol passed through them. She set it down on the bar, not caring that it wasn't completly finished. The only thing she was focused on now was the boy and dancing. She wasn't the type of girl to pick up guys at the club, take them wherever, and have a one night stand. She had a reputation to uphold and she wasn't going to disgrace her family by being easy. Girls like that were disgusting to her but that didn't mean she didn't flirt and dance with different guys when she went out. She was a single girl afterall and there was no shame in just having a good time.
Jumping up off her seat, Artemis began weaving her way through the crowd, making her way towards the unfamilair boy. As soon as her heels hit the floor, she began swaying to the beat, moving her hips in time with the rhythm. She kept making her way towards him, steadily keeping with beat too. The floor had started filling as the DJ started playing better beats. Bodies were smashed against each other, all of them moving quickly to the beat. It wasn't long until she was dancing right next to him. Artemis turned her dark brown eyes up and offered him a flirty grin. It was her unspoken invitation to dance and she hoped, that just like every other time, it worked with him.

Once a decent beat was selected, people were practically running for the dance floor. Which made Starr feel much less self-conscious, it wasn't easy being the only guy on the dance floor. He could tell that there was a shortage of guys tonight because a few girls were dancing around/next to him, flashing him smiles. One girl swayed so close to him she was practically grinding against his body. Starr reacted with all of them the same; he gave them a wry smile and moved away from them. To some people, going to a club and not finding someone to flirt with was like trying to make bread without flour. Not for Starr. Being flirted with made him feel uncomfortable, which was odd, because he was used to it. He didn't know what girls saw in him but there was something about him that seemed to draw the affections of females. He never took advantage of this, naturally, someone would have to be pretty special to be his next relationship.
Just when he thought that he'd lost all his female attentions, he caught the eye of Miss Darcy. The one the people outside had been talking about who strolled in without queuing like normal people did. She too.. it seemed, was giving him flirty smiles. Looking to the ceiling in a 'why!?' fashion, he stopped dancing and evacuated the dance floor. Maybe many guys would've killed to be getting flirty vibes from so many women but Starr didn't want it. He could meet female friends, sure, but something struck him as sleazy about 'picking up' in any sense of the word, a woman in a bar. Not to mention this woman was a Darcy and though he'd reserved his own personal judgement, it was common rumour that Miss Darcy got everything she wanted. What a fool he'd have to be to become one of them. He walked up the nightclub stairs so that he was looking down at the dancefloor.
He enjoyed the height, it was almost like being on the roof of the whole scene. He could see all the intimate dancers, all the crazy drunks, all the drinkers, the lonely people searching for someone to dance with. He could see them all from up there. He rested his arms on the rails and looked downward. He wasn't sure he wanted to drink yet, so he was perfectly content with people spotting.

Artemis had cast her eyes down to the floor for a moment in a teasing manner and had not seen the boy's reaction. So, as soon as her eyes flicked back up to where he had been dancing a few seconds before, she was quite surprised to see the back of his head retreating through the crowd and up the stairs. Artemis slowed her movements as she watched him walk away from her. She gave the back of his blond head a funny look. That usually was not what happned whenever she flashed that inviting smile.
She stood in the middle of the crowd for a moment, thinking over what had just happened. Not getting what she wanted almost never happened. Artemis knew being spoiled wasn't necessarily a good thing but it hadn't made her into a brat like most people thought it had. Well taken care of, yes, but not spoiled to the point of ridiculousness. The youngest Darcy was often portrayed as the cold and bitchy princess who did whatever she wanted and got whatever she wanted. People were going to think what they wanted to and she knew she couldn't stop that. In truth, Artemis wasn't like that. She would so anything for the people she loved and was quite a sweetheart.
When someone bumped hard into her shoulder, Artemis was pulled back to the club and the loud, pulsing music. She looked around the club again, finding the blond boy again. She danced her way off the floor and over to the bar, asking for just a water this time. Her throat burned for the cool, alcohol free liquid from all the dancing. The bartender tossed her a bottle of water and turned away to help his next customer.
Artemis turned back to face to mass of people that had filled the floor as she sipped her water. She searched around for her brother for a moment before her eyes landed, once again, on the blond boy at the top of the stairs. Without realizing what she was doing, Artemis started making her way up the stairs. She didn't know why but she had to talk to him. Artemis walked right up next to him and leaned against the railing, looking down at the people below. She kept her eyes there for a moment before turning to face him. "It's not polite to leave a girl just standing in the middle of the dance floor like that, you know?" Artemis' tone was gentle and her voice was just loud enough to be heard over the music.

Starr froze as Artemis walked right next to him and leaned against the railing. In his mind he was wondering whether she would talk to him. Did she follow him? Or did she just happen to be walking up here? He didn't know what to think. Maybe it wasn't even her - maybe it was one of the funny tricks of the nightclub lights. After all, he'd basically turned her down silently out on that dance floor. What woman would come back after that? He couldn't blame her, he just hated the thought of being another one of the Darcy trophies. Not that he wasn't going to talk to her, he was far too polite and kind to ignore anybody. The guy that bullied him in pre-school is a friend on his facebook, that's how much he didn't hold grudges. And he couldn't deny that Miss Darcy was fine, even though he didn't act on such impulses.
As they both stood in silence, looking down at the dance floor, Starr was almost convinced that she must've just wanted to stand up there and hadn't in fact pursued him like he'd previously thought. Or that was his theory, until he heard her speak. Only barely though, the music was pretty loud. "I would have to be crazy to think that a public figure such as yourself would want to be politely declined in front of a crowd of people that could possibly hear." Starr countered daringly. Under normal circumstances he'd have probably broken down and apologized but this time he felt like his heart had been in the right place. He also felt mildly flattered that it had bothered her at all that he'd walked out on her.
His eyes transferred back over the dance floor. Nothing in particular caught his eye. Your beautiful it's true, I saw your face, in a crowded place. And I don't know what to do, cos' i'll never be with you. started playing in his head. It seemed to bear some kind of superficial link with him at that moment. "I'm Astarpio, most of my friends call me Starr." he reached his hand out to shake, feeling a little strange to think that he'd need not ask her name. He'd heard enough about her already, the people queuing outside provided an adequate introduction for one.

His words completely caught her off gaurd but, for some reason, she found them amusing. His blunt honesty was something she could appreciate as she was usually the one telling people like it was. Lying wasn't going to get anyone anywhere fast, so Artemis had come to the conclusion long ago that telling the truth, no matter how painful or brutal, was the best policy. A smirk crept across her painted lips. It reached all the way to her dark eyes and lit a mischievious light behind them.
Aretmis kept her dark eyes on him as he continued speaking and introduced himself. Astarpio. His name echoed in her mind for a moment as she tried to recall where she had heard it from. Adaleen must have mentioned him or something. She gripped his hand gently and gave him a genuine smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you Starr. I'm Artemis Darcy. I suppose you're new to New Castle? I'm sure I would remember meeting you if I had before." Aretmis knew most of the people in New Castle. Old families and new ones, nothing usually got by the Darcy clan. Part of that stemmed from the fact that her parents were on the council and that her family ran the Academy. Anyone new that was a vampire, werewolf, or shifter trained at Darcy Academy. It was a little overwhelimg at times, being apart of a family like her's. That was part of the reason she loved going out. It allowed her to forget for a while what responsibilities she had.
She turned her eyes away from Starr and looked back out over the throng of bodies on the dance floor. The beat had picked up again and people had flooded the already over-crowded area. Her brother was down there somewhere with the rest of their friends. Usually, Aretmis was right in the middle of the floor, dancing for hours. Tonight though, she didn't mind not being down there. She wanted to stay right where she was and get to know Starr. It was odd but she couldn't seem to let herself just walk away from him at the moment.

Starr looked surprised that Artemis had offered an introduction. "Oh I know who you are. I mean, doesn't everybody? Your parents are on the council, not to mention who runs the Academy.. my guess is your part of the most famous family in Garvonia." Starr mentioned, impressed. Starr didn't know many people who held value just in their name. In fact, he could only think of those on the council. He doubted Artemis heard most of his words though, the music at the club was louder than fireworks and crackled Starr's ears just like them too. He had to unset his eyes from the dance floor in order to attempt to ignore the atmosphere, ineffectually. After every dance he could still hear people race to the bar.
Artemis probably didn't want to talk about all the baggage that came to her name, Darcy. Or maybe she loved people talking about her renowned family. Either way, he decided to switch to a more mutual topic. "Oh yes, fairly new. New Castle is great though, I love it. In fact I was uh, gonna swing by the movies after this. If your not doing anything..." he shrugged, a slight blush creeping into his cheeks. He didn't know why he was nervous. It wasn't like he was talking to God. But he couldn't keep his eyes away from her sweet painted lips. They looked soft. Kissable. He would have to throw it up to hormones, since he'd had nothing to drink.
"If you want.." he offered, though he wished he could suck his words back up like a vacuum. There was no way, not a single chance, that she was going to say yes. She was gorgeous, flawless. His head was going into overdrive and he didn't know how to express his apology for thinking such an incredibly naive notion. Of course a girl like that already has a boyfriend.

It didn't surprise her that Starr knew who she was. It was hard not to know what families belonged to the coucil. Their children were just as well known as their parents. It was both a blessing and a curse. That constant pressure of "upholding the family name" and every other stupid rule or line her parents enforced. Artemis often wondered if anything she achieved was good enough for Alair and Almeda Darcy. This wasn't something she ever talked about with anyone other than her brother though. People would immediately write her off as some spoiled little princess who only wanted more attention. Artemis kept her lips sealed and ignored the anxiety that sat in the pit of her stomach.
Artemis was more than grateful when Starr changed the subject. Her lips, which had started to pull into a thin, forced grin while Starr was talking about her family, relaxed back into a gentle smile as the blush crept into his cheeks. His inviation was quite unexpected but there was no way she was going to refuse. "Well I'm glad you like it here and I would love to catch a movie with you." She repiled, putting particular emphasis on her last words.
She couldn't wait to get out of the club and be alone with Starr for a little while. Even though they had just met, Aretmis felt completely comfortable with him. She gestured towards the stairs, moving away from the railing, began making her way down them and towards the exit. She kept glancing over her shoulder, making sure Starr was still behind her. The amount of people inside the club had certainly increased since her arrival and it was definitely a lot harder to get through the floor.
After pushing her way through what felt like a wall of intoxicated bodies, Artemis stepped out into the open. The fresh air filled her lungs, replacing the stale club smell with scents of the town. The summer night had cooled down but it felt nice against her pale skin. "We can take my car if you want to?" She offered, gesturing to the lot across the street.

Changing the subject had apparently been the right move, he instantly saw that Artemis was far more relaxed when the focus wasn't on her family. Starr felt like he was learning more and more about Artemis every minute. She was fascinating, attractive and even fun to be around. He only knew one other person like that, his best friend Ai. But Ai wasn't the one he was currently leaving the club with, it was Artemis. And he stuck by Artemis as she tried to make her way through the crowd. Even though he was sure Artemis was capable of navigating herself through the dizzy dancefloor, Starr wanted to be the gentleman that kept her away from people that could potentially push into her or hurt her in some way. Starr was protective by nature, especially to women, it was a testament to how he was raised.
A shy smile crept upon Starr's lips as Artemis consistently looked back at him - Starr guessed it was approximately every three to five seconds - because it seemed to Starr unnecessary. His presence was guaranteed. He'd met someone he'd like to get to know better and had asked her out to prove that, she didn't have to worry about him going anywhere. Eventually they made it outside, where the air felt like a sweet release. It tasted like a cold drink inside his throat as he breathed in. And as he turned to face where Artemis was indicating, he still wasn't entirely sure this was happening. Was he actually going to the movies with a girl that wasn't his best friend? Clearing his throat and hoping that it expelled some of the nerves, he replied "Sure, that sounds good." though actually, it sounded better than good. He was pretty sure his own hands were shaking, it was best that he not drive her in his car. Plus he had an embarrassing stash of sandwiches in the trunk.
Starr maintained a respectful distance as they walked to her car. After all, they had just met. He didn't want her thinking anything bad about him. In fact, the whole reason he'd walked away from her in the first place was because he wasn't that type of guy. It seemed as though he'd misjudged Artemis though, as she didn't seem like the type of girl to pick up a guy from a bar either. Maybe she was particularly lenient with her male company tonight, or maybe there was something about him that she liked. Whatever it was, Starr made a mental note to find out.
