It had been a week since she had seen and spoken to Axel. He wasn’t returning any of her calls, he wasn’t answering any of her calls, he wasn’t returning anything. She tried emailing him, texting him, calling him, and nothing. She knew he needed some space, she hadn’t even tried calling him the first few days, but after she explained everything to her parents, who had screamed and yelled and threw things, she knew she needed to talk to him. Her parents hadn’t kicked her out like she thought they would have, but they were not talking to her or even really acknowledging that she was even there. It hurt her, but she figured that after the twins were born they would probably warm up to her again because after all, they were all family and her parents loved babies.
The school’s teachers and nursing staff had been informed thanks to Headmistress Darcy, she obviously had to let everyone know what was going on and to keep an eye out for her, but Rory wasn’t happy about it. She not only had to go to regular doctor appointments in town, she now also had to go to them at the school seeing as she lived there during the year, and seeing as school was quickly coming in, Cheer camp and dance camp were starting soon. Rory of course, could only cheer and dance for a short while and couldn’t do a lot of what she had been able to do, but she could still be captain of the dance team and co-captain the soccer team, but she would have to take it easy. She could play some of her sports, but she would have to bench it for lacrosse, ice hockey, basketball, and swimming. Soccer she’d have to be benched most of the time, but she could still occasionally play but only for the first game or two.
Cheerleading camp had started already, so Aurora had actually been busy trying to keep her mind off of everything, but when you went to a school where the teachers tended to gossip as much as the students, word got out fairly quickly though for now it was just a rumor so Rory didn’t say anything on the matter. ‘They all figure out when I’m huge anyway.’ She thought with a sigh after finishing her day at cheer camp. Throwing on a pair of sweats and a hoody over her practice uniform, Rory jumped in her car and headed for Axel’s apartment. She was going to make him talk to her if she had to, but they needed to talk and she had finally calmed down and accepted the fact that it wasn’t all his fault, it was hers too and she hadn’t even taken his feelings into consideration for the most part.
Parking her car in the garage, Rory made her way to the elevator and waited to hit the seventh floor. Making all the twists and turns like a pro, Rory quickly made it to apartment 732, where Axel lived. Knocking loudly on the door so he could hear, Rory took a deep breath. “Axel, it’s me… can you please let me in? We need to talk…” Rory gently wrapped her arms around her small frame (small for now anyway) and sighed again as she waited. “I’m sorry Axel. I’m sorry that I blamed this on you and accused you of stuff and… I’m just really sorry, but I’m so scared Axel. I didn’t mean to not take any of your feelings into consideration… I just don’t know what to do and I’m so scared of having to do this on my own…” Rory let out a breath and took another deep one. “Please just talk to me, I won’t freak out or anything. I’ll let you talk and then we’ll decide what to do from there…” She said through the door though quietly added, “I really need you with me.”

Axel was watching the News with his mother and father in his apartment. They'd stopped by to visit, to talk to him and to try and get in some bonding over what he was going to do about their grandchildren. They were already calling the twins that, their grandchildren. His mother even said that having twins is like running a marathon. You need to learn to conserve your energy for the long run. Which didn't make Axel any more confident about the situation. Axel had tried hacking into his parent's minds to try to work out why they'd adopted anyway. They were older than the recommended parenting age yet they chose to take on Axel and his sister. Subjecting themselves to everything they'd done the first time with their biological sons, the teaching to crawl, teaching to walk, morning feeds. It was comical that anyone would do that after their first two sons were older and settled.
His thoughts were interrupted by Rory's sweet voice coming from the hall. He knew she'd be embarrassed if she knew his parents were listening and reacting facially to her words. The chain connected the door and the wall together but Axel opened the door slightly. "I'm sorry Rory I uh, have company right now. I'll talk to you later ok?" he suggested idly. It wasn't that he wasn't in the sociable mood for his girlfriend to meet his family, it was just one step too far for them right now. He was uninspired in his belief that he and Rory would work as a relationship when she was so paranoid and asking him every time they were together whether he was leaving or not. It was exhausting reminding a woman all the time that you were there for her and surely if she cared for you, she believed you first time?
Aligning the door back against the wall, his parents clearly didn't know how to react to Rory modeling her emotions the way she did. And Rory had never met his family, it was unlikely that she'd recognize his parent's van parked outside. Axel wouldn't have entertained the idea of Rory meeting her guests right now when she was already feeling vulnerable, though he felt the pang of knowing that he'd just shut the door on her.

To say she was surprised when Axel said he had company would be an understatment. She had no idea who he would have in there with him, but she had immediatly kicked out the thought of him having another female that wasn't family in there, though she had been angry when he closed the door in her face. Taking a deep breath and counting to ten, Rory attempted to not flip on him for shuting the door in her face. "Okay then, well text me when you're done? Please?" She wasn't embarrassed that she had just poured her heart out to him while he had guests, she was too focused on making things right between her and Axel and to have an audience didn't faze her at all, when normally it would have. She was too determined to talk to Axel about everything and attempt to make things work.
Feeling slightly rejected, Aurora kept her arms wrapped around herself and made her way back to her car so she could go home and shower and change out of her practice uniform, which her parents had personally made for her with blue and gold and the word "Panthers" across the front. Quite a few other cheerleaders had similar uniforms with different colors and if they were shifters they had their animal on the front, though not everyone chose to do this and instead just used old uniforms to practice in. It was a quick drive home with no cops around and all the back roads open, sure her car got dirty but she didn't care anymore.
Once she made it home, Rory quickly made her way up to her bedroom and into the connected bathroom. Aurora quickly changed out of her uniform and over clothes and jumped in the shower for a quick wash. Instead of her normal hour in the shower, she cut the time in half and decided to change into a pair of light blue capris and a purple loose shirt that came right above her belly button that showed off her still toned stomach. Of course, she wouldn't be able to wear shirts like these once she started really showing her pregnancy but for now, she could still wear them. Rory dried her hair and let it wave out naturally and decided against wearing any make-up. She just didn't feel like putting any on and it would be a waste to add any when she felt and probably looked so beaten down. Sitting on her bed, Rory reached for her laptop and set her phone beside her so she could wait for Axel to call her so she could come over and they could talk.

Axel saw the conversation between him and his mother going downhill the mintue he shut the door. He actually started to row with her, after pesky questions about when they'd meet Rory. He wanted to be ready for anything but he wasn't ready for this. When he'd seen another man flirt with Aurora he was inquisitive as to why he wasn't good enough, the jealousy underneath spurred him into taking her back. The execution of such had resumed their relationship with the same problems they'd had before. Maybe it wasn't going to work. He knew that he'd be a father to the twins she was bearing, maybe it was time for them to arrange that maybe he could see the twins on a weekly basis so he still got to spend time with them and be a father. He didn't want to confuse being in a relationship with being a father, he could be one without the other.
"I have to stop this," he told his mother at last, "It's not fair to Rory for me to continue this relationship if I don't know I can be in it. I'm going to be a father but we can't continue seeing each other, not like this." practically smashing the door off it's hinges as he shut the door behind him and went to see Rory. His parents knew they were welcome to stay, they often sat and make themselves tea and coffee. It was almost like living with them again. Maybe Rory would break up with him anyway. From the shady way he shut the door on her, he imagined she presumed he was with another girl. That was probably best; then she'd think he was a douchebag and breaking up might actually be seen as a positive thing.
He didn't plan to make a musical number about it. He walked to hers so his journey was significantly longer. he really needed to take his driving test, taking the bus to work was one thing, walking with twins was another. Since he didn't think Rory had eaten, he stopped off at the grocery store first and picked up a ton of everything so that dinner could be whatever she wanted. He picked up olive oil, a medium onion, milk, turkey mince, a bag of apples, thyme leaves, flour, sunflower oil, a clove of garlic, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree and dried oregano. If she had some spaghetti and fresh basil he could easily make turkey meatballs with spaghetti and tomato sauce, but that was up to her. She was eating for three, he imagined she wouldn't be too picky.
Standing there outside the grocery store, he squinted as he noticed Rory coming toward the store. He shuffled behind the wall so that she wouldn't see him. He wasn't sure why, it was just something automatic he did. Coming back to his senses he stepped out from behind the wall with grocery bags filling his arms. "Hey, how're you doing?" Axel asked, knowing that he worked too hard in the decades of his life hiding his emotions for anyone, not any partner or girlfriend or friend to know what he was thinking or feelings. He prided himself on being hard to figure out, it meant nobody got too close.

Aurora quickly grew tired of waiting for Axel and finally decided that she would instead walk to the dance studio in town to work off some steam. She had asked the doctor if she would still be able to dance and she had been given a time frame and could no longer do lifts, certain jumps, and not many spins, which obviously she wouldn't have even thought of doing now that she was pregnant. Grabbing her snake bracelet though not really knowing why, Rory grabbed her cell phone, shut her laptop off, and decided to stay in her current clothes. With her work out choice they'd be fine as she wouldn't be doing her normal routine, but a much more toned down version.
Rory decided to drive to town and park at the little coffee shop she worked at, seeing as she would also have to tell her boss that she was pregnant. After she parked her little red corvette in the parking lot in her usual spot, Rory started her way towards the dance studio, though took the long way that passed the grocery store, as she needed a water and some snacks in case she got hungry. It had become an annoyance, as her nose was suddenly very picky with what it liked and what it didn't, and even worse it suddenly didn't like things she used to love. Citrus, for instance, was a scent that Rory used to love and now gagged at the very thought of the scent.
As she walked nearer to the grocery store, Rory saw her boyfriend come out from behind the wall. His face was unreadable, making her slightly nervous. His arms were filled with grocery bags which just confused her. When he spoke, Rory almost wanted to be angry but she knew that she didn't have a right to be angry with him. It was a simple question, but still she thought he would have known how she was feeling as she had made it very clear she was confused, scared, and her mood swings were bouncing around like a bouncy ball. "I'm on my way to the studio, I figured since you didn't call I'd go and work on a routine for my mini's... the little six-to-nine year old dancers I help at the studio." Rory loved to dance, it was widely known around school, so it was only natural for her to jump at the chance to actually teach dance, even if it was to little kids. She had come to enjoy teaching her "mini's" as they were all eager to learn and alway had fun dancing.
Knowing that she should have been used to his poker face by know, Rory silently wondered why he was being so distant. He was the one who said that they would try and make it work, but it could possibly just be him being over stressed about the twins. "So, not to be nosey or anything, but who was at your apartment when I stopped by?" She asked, trying not to sound jealous, but she was. "I mean, if you don't want to tell me I guess you don't have to, it's your business... not mine." She was worried that he was done with her and ready to move on to the next girl, though she didn't believe that he would do that to her.

Axel eyed Rory and grew agitated at the twitch that seemed to occur in her features, almost like she was near anger for his asking of a simple question. Which made no sense, was she going to yell at him for asking how she was now too? He dipped into his grocery bag, which also had a packet of cigarettes he bought. He'd been trying to stop for months but with the new stress of the twins his numbers were increasing. He pulled one out and lit it, inhaling a strong drag to instill calmness. "Concerned?" he asked, slightly muffled as he had a cig in his mouth when he asked. He took it out and breathed the smoke away from Rory. He was a polite smoker, he didn't blow it in people's faces. Rory would probably talk to him again about quitting but Axel was scared that if he did he'd be an angry withdrawn person all the time and the withdrawal symptoms would be a lot worse. There was no way he was giving Rory an eternity of a furious, bitter non-smoker when he could give her a content Axel with the occasional cigarette.
"I'm not cheating on you, if that's what your thinking. You'd have to think pretty low of me to even consider that. Have I ever given you reason to think I would ever cheat?" he asked unamused knowing full well how jealous she sounded. He felt accused, surely if she trusted him then she wouldn't come to a conclusion such as that. He was now more convinced than ever that this couldn't work. Next time he saw a guy hitting on her maybe he'd just kick the crap out of the guy rather than thinking that the impulse to protect was attributed to love. He put the groceries down and flicked away the cigarette. He took Rory over to a bench beside the grocery store and sat down with her. His eyes looked decent as he took her hands. "Rory, I like you, but I don't want a relationship right now. Not with everything that's happened, we have to focus on being parents, that has to come before anything else." he told her softly, giving her a final light kiss on the lips.
"I hope you understand." he told her, genuinely hoping so. As for him, he was actually feeling less stressed about the situation now. Instead of worrying about all that relationship stuff, he could focus on being a role model to his twins.

Rory watched Axel pull out the pack of cigarettes out of the grocery bag and scrunched her nose slightly. She used to smoke when she really partied before dating Axel, but actually quit after even though he had smoked too. Mainly her reason for quitting was that it was starting to affect her dancing and working out, she would not stop because of smoking when she could easily quit and continue to work out. She had been a little irratble at first but her determination and strong will got her through it. "Not at all. I just got restless waiting so I decided to leave. I can't do all my jumps, spins, dips, and flips anymore but I can still do a modified version for now and eventually I'm not going to be able to do it but I don't want to get weak and not be able to pick up my dancing again after the twins are born." She said while still watching him smoke. He was a polite smoker so she didn't really have to tell him to watch where he blew his smoke, she just hoped that he wouldn't smoke in front of the twins as second hand smoke was more harmful than first hand.
Shaking her head, Rory gave a sarcastic laugh and leaned against the wall beside her. "Well I didn't think you would, but seeing as how everythings gone to hell and you pretty much slammed the door in my face and wouldn't let me in it seemed pretty fishy." She told him while placing one hand over her stomach and the other across her chest holding her opposite arm. As he flicked his cigarette away, Rory moved back away from the wall and let him lead her to the bench. She listened to him break up with her, and suddenly she wasn't angry anymore, in fact she didn't really feel anything. It was as her entire world just went numb. He kissed her lips gently as if for the last time, and she just let him and didn't respond. She knew she loved him, but she could only think of how he couldn't love her. She made it too hard for him to love her. Now, more than ever, Rory needed to leave. She felt as if she couldn't breath.
"Understand? No, I don't understand Axel... but it's your decision. I can't make you stay with me, not anymore." her voice was emotionless. Getting off the bench and taking her hands out of Axel's, Rory could see he was less stressed. "I've seen people who have been worse off than us stay together and still be good parents for their kids... but I don't know anymore. Maybe this is a good thing, after all, you won't let me in. I don't really know you, hell I know kids I pass in the hallway better than you." Rory turned away from him and looked at the dance studio across the street. "I'll call you when the twins are born, I guess. You'll be hearing from my lawyer so we can work out a schedule for you to see them... Goodbye Professor Lasion." She didn't really know what else to call him, sure he was the father of her twins, but now he was an ex boyfriend, and she didnt' know if they would ever get back together, so she went with what she had to call him in school when she saw him, because at the moment he reallyw as a stranger to her. Though, honestly, anyone Rory knew could be a stranger at the moment for all she cared. She didn't move to walk, but she was now contemplating if she should just go home, go to the studio, or go cry her eyes out to Artemis. The first one was reasonable, the second was alright, but the third was out of the question. She was to be a mother now and needed to grow up, she coudln't cry her eyes out just because her boyfriend couldn't handle having a girlfriend and being a father anymore not now that she had bigger things to worry about, like her twins. "I'll send a list of names with the lawyers and you can pick out what you like and send it back." She told him before looking back at him over her shoulder one last time and switching her current direction toward her car. 'I need to trade that in for a better car for kids. I'll never fit two car seats in there and all the stuff I'm going to need.' She thought to herself before stopping and looking back at him. "Also, when I have the baby shower you're mother and sister and whoever are of course invited so I'll need a list of that too unless they don't want to come. Whatever works for them and you." She said finally before walking to the little coffee shop where she worked and climbed in her little red sports car, before finally just sitting there and letting herself cry. 'Who am I kidding? I'm an emotional mess.'

As she stormed off Axel knew this was going to need more than one cigarette. He brought out another one and smoked it like there was no tomorrow. Maybe he'd quit when his life wasn't so damn stressful. Well, if she was going to behave like a spoiled child having a tantrum then there was nothing Axel could do about it. One thing was for certain, he wasn't playing her game with lawyers. She either spoke directly to him like a mature adult or not at all because he didn't need to talk to lawyers. He was happy to talk about schedules, baby showers, baby names, so hiding behind lawyers was a chicken move on her part. "Actually you can not contact anyone until your brave enough to talk to me directly. I'm not talking to any lawyers." he shouted after her, leaning back against the building. He already decided he wasn't going after her, not after the strop she just gave him.
Eventually stuffing the cigarette into an overloaded trashcan he decided that he would maybe go to his sisters and cook for her instead. Whistling a tune he walked with the grocery bags back coddled into his arms. He did pass the coffee shop on the way but for the good of both of them he decided not to look into the car. He could not imagine being with her when she was like this. What had hurt him the most though was the attitude he got for breaking up with her, the fact that she said she'd text him when the babies were born. As if he was just going to go to sleep for nine months! Once again he was presumed the jerk and he was furious about it.
"Have a good afternoon Rory." he called back to her, not meeting her face. He was sorry to think that her afternoon was unlikely to be good, but he wanted to maintain some politeness even if she wasn't. It was most definitely over. He was fortunate that the pavement didn't swallow him up, it felt like it.
